Carles Sánchez Márquez

Carles Sánchez Márquez (Terrassa, 1983) holds a Ph.D. in Art History from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (2017, Extraordinary Doctorate Award), where he is teaching as part-time lecturer in the Department of Art and Musicology. He currently combines teaching with directing the candidacy of the See of Egara for UNESCO World Heritage (Terrassa City Council). He has worked as editor for the Enciclopedia del Románico en España (Fundación Santa María la Real) and was awarded with a research grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation-Santiago Cathedral Program, for the study of the Pórtico da Gloria. His research focuses mainly on Romanesque painting and sculpture and the sociology of the medieval artist. The latter is the subject of his doctoral thesis: Building the Cathedral: organization of the workshop, status and role of the artist in medieval Hispanic art. Member of the consolidated research group Magistri Cataloniae-Cultural Studies of the Medieval Mediterranean (11th-15th centuries), he has participated in numerous national and international conferences in Barcelona, Madrid, Rome, Pisa, Montpellier and Perpignan.
