He holds a degree in Geography and History and a diploma in Graphic Documents from the Escuela Superior de Conservación y Restauración de Bienes Culturales de Madrid. He worked at the Instituto de Patrimonio Cultural de España and the Museo del Pueblo Español. He was previously restorer of the bibliographic fund (1992-2018) and director of the bookbinding and restoration workshops (2019-2023) in the National Library of Spain. Since 2023, he has been working in the Preventive Conservation Office of the Instituto del Patrimonio Cultural de España.
He teaches Conservation and Bookbinding at various Spanish universities. Between 1999 and 2001, he directed the reconstruction of the Conservation Services of the National University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo and has participated in different cooperation projects in Cuba and Morocco. He is a member of the Ancient Book Research Group BIBLIOPEGIA.
In 2014 he was awarded the National Prize for the Restoration and Conservation of Cultural Heritage for his career in the field of conservation of documentary and bibliographic heritage.
He is author of several books (Políticas de conservación en bibliotecas, Madrid 1999; Los desastres en archivos: cómo planificarlos, Gijón 2011, etc), as well as editor of the Manual de planificación y prevención de desastres en archivos y bibliotecas (Madrid, 2001). He has also published more than thirty articles in specialised periodicals and collective works.
